Living in New Mexico, we are blessed with an abundance of camping options and those camping options are especially excellent around Santa Fe.

Before you start planning out your camping trip in Santa Fe, there are some things you should know.

There are a number of paid campsites and there are a number of free areas to camp. Depending on your needs, use this to your advantage.

Black Canyon Campground in Santa Fe National Forest

36 camp sites that operate on a reserve and first come, first serve basis. Located on Hyde Park road just a minute or so from the Hyde Memorial Park Yurts, this is another highly sought out camping area in Santa Fe.

Yurts at Hyde Memorial Park

As a local who lives about 10 minutes from these Yurts, I would recommend this to anyone who wants a unique camping experience in Santa Fe.

Not only is it a humble brag to say you’ve slept in a Yurt, but the location of these are some of the best in Santa Fe.

Imagine this, you wake up after an epic night tucked away, and a number of the best santa fe hiking trails are only within a few minutes from your bed!

There are 3 yurts to rent and they are $80/night!

Big Tesuque Campground

Big Tesuque is one of the highest elevation campgrounds in Santa Fe County and one of the closes to the Santa Fe Ski Area. There are 6 first come, first serve campgrounds that are hard to come by.

There is no official address but you can easily find it right off of Hyde Park Road/Highway 475

As a photographer in Santa Fe, this is an epic campground for chasing Fall colors in Santa Fe.

Pro Tip: Grab a Delicious Santa Fe Breakfast Burrito before heading out to your campsite!

Santa Fe KOA Journey

Santa Fe does have a KOA location for those who love spending time at the abundance of KOA’s around the states.

Although it’s not in the heart of Santa Fe, it’s only about a 20 minute drive southeast of town.

Rates for Santa Fe KOA tent campers typically run around $45-$50/night.

Santa Fe Tree-house Camp

The Santa Fe Tree-house Camp offers visitors 156 acres with 11 lodging sites, 18 RV/tent sites.

No smoking and no candle facility.

4wd or AWD is recommended as the campsite is about 1.3 miles on a dirt road.

Tent campsites are primitive meaning there are no tables or campfire pits.

However, there is access to a communal kitchen area and the birdbath building featuring toilets, sinks and showers.

Prices for primitive tent camping are charged by person at about $20-$25/night.

The camp also offers Treehouse accommodations that are accommodations raised about 6′ above the ground and do not feature electricity. Included is 1 queen and 3 single beds. Perfect for those who want the outdoor experience without pitching a tent!
